Running the 2021 Yorkshire Marathon. My FIRST EVER TIME pacing a marathon! 5 hour marathon pacing.

The Yorkshire Marathon (sponsored by the Asda Foundation and organised by Run For All Events), is a road running marathon held in York. It has been an annual event since 2013 held in October... until the pandemic led to it being cancelled in 2020. On the 17th October 2021 the postponed 2020 marathon took place and, despite it being only 2 weeks since running the London Marathon, I volunteered to run as a pacer. The course for the Yorkshire Marathon starts at The University of York (Heslington) and heads to the centre of York, taking in iconic landmarks such as York Minster. You then run out on the Vale of York before returning to finish the marathon where you started… at the University campus. I have never run the Yorkshire Marathon and I have never paced a marathon before, so to say I was extremely nervous would be an understatement! I’m confident pacing shorter distances and life isn’t about sitting in your comfort zone. So, despite getting back from a busy weekend in Birmingham the night before I set my alarm nice and early and set off in the rain to pace my first marathon! I had an absolute blast!
