New September 2025! See TRAFFIC CHANGES along the M1 Pacific Motorway Extension to Raymond Terrace
Fifth visit to the M1 Pacific Motorway extension project on a sunny morning 31 August 2025. Starting at Raymond Terrace Interchange through Heatherbrae Bypass to Tomago Interchange then across Hunter River to Tarro Interchange and Black Hill Interchange. This approximate 12-kilometer trip is covered in 4 stages. The video takes a closer look at traffic changes in particular at Tomago Interchange. According to NSW Government, from beginning of August, traffic from the existing northbound lane of the Pacific Highway at Tomago has moved onto the new road and bridge opposite Tomago Road. This section of road forms part of the permanent on-ramp for the Tomago interchange. Six to eight weeks later, southbound traffic will also be moved to the west, onto new pavement under a new bridge near Old Punt Road. These changes open up a large work area on the existing Pacific Highway, allowing crews to power on with this transformational project. See the following page for further information on traffic changes for the M1 Pacific Motorway extension project: https://www.nsw.gov.au/ministerial-re... It is quite apparent to see how this new M1 Extension will save motorists a lot of driving time. Motorists will be able to bypass driving through Heatherbrae town centre, skirt across Tomago and then cross the Hunter River while bypassing Hexham and Hexham Bridge with the very next destination at Tarro Interchange and Black Hill Interchange. Not good that is has taken so long to get this project up but hopefully from here on we’ll see noticeable progress. The M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace is an immense project spanning 15 kilometres and four new interchanges at Black Hill, Tarro, Tomago and Raymond Terrace! The motorway extension is expected to have several key benefits: i) Improved connection between the M1 Pacific Motorway and the Pacific Highway ii) Improved traffic flow for motorists and freight for more reliable travel times iii) Improved accessibility to the surrounding road network iv) Improved safety for all road users. The Australian and NSW governments have provided $2.1 billion to deliver the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace (SSI - 7319) and Hexham Straight projects. The project includes 15 kilometres of dual carriageway and provides motorway access from the existing road network from four new interchanges at Black Hill, Tarro, Tomago and Raymond Terrace. The project also includes a 2.6 kilometre viaduct over the Hunter River floodplain, the Main North Rail Line, and the New England Highway. It will also provide new bridge crossings over local waterways at Tarro and Raymond Terrace, and an overpass for Masonite Road at Heatherbrae.
