South Africa’s EV road trip landscape has officially changed forever. ⚡🇿🇦 I attended the launch of TWO brand-new fully off-grid ultra-fast EV charging stations by Zero Carbon Charge (also known as CHARGE) on the N3 highway between Johannesburg and Durban — and this is a major moment for electric mobility in South Africa. The two new stations are: 📍 Leeukop Padstal – Reitz/Roadside Turnoff 107 📍 Three Towers Padstal – Winterton/Colenso Turnoff 207 These are not ordinary charging stations. Each site features: ☀️ 280kWp solar farm 🔋 640kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) 🌱 Backup biodiesel generator ⚡ 3 ultra-fast DC chargers with 6 charging connectors delivering up to 360kW 🔌 2 x 22kW AC chargers with FREE AC charging for PHEV drivers The biggest takeaway? 🚨 RANGE ANXIETY on the Johannesburg ↔ Durban route is now essentially a thing of the past.
