Why Christians Stopped Circumcision (Jews and Muslims Never Did)

Genesis 17 gave one covenant sign to all of Abraham's children. Judaism and Islam still carry it. Christianity does not. Here's why. In Genesis 17:11, God commands Abraham to circumcise every male in his household as "a sign of the covenant." Judaism has carried that sign for nearly 4,000 years, including through the persecution recorded in 1 Maccabees. Islam anchors the same practice in the household of Abraham and the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad. Christianity took a different path. In Acts 15, the apostles ruled that Gentile believers did not need to be circumcised, and Paul later argued in Galatians, Colossians, and Romans that the sign had moved from the flesh to the heart.
