Did BMW Ruin the New X5?

The next-generation BMW X5 takes the familiar formula in a very different visual direction. In this design review, MotoMan looks closely at the new G65 BMW X5 and the details that separate it from both the outgoing X5 and the Neue Klasse iX3. That includes the new daytime running lights, dramatically altered grille treatment, wider proportions, pronounced rear haunches, unusual surfacing and some very unconventional door handles. There are also a few surprises. Some of the X5’s design works very differently in person than it does in photographs, while details borrowed from elsewhere in the BMW Group add another layer to the discussion.
