This journey passes through the peaceful and scenic landscapes of Assam and Tripura, offering views of green hills, forests, small stations, and quiet countryside life. Tripura has a rich and unique history. It was once a princely state ruled by the Manikya dynasty for several centuries and maintained its own identity, culture, and administration. After India gained independence in 1947, Tripura officially joined the Indian Union in 1949. However, due to its remote location, dense forests, hilly terrain, and lack of proper transport infrastructure, the state remained largely isolated for many years. Railway connectivity came very late compared to the rest of India. The first railway line entered Tripura in 1964, reaching Dharmanagar from Assam. This was a major moment, as it connected the northern part of the state to the Indian railway network for the first time. However, the capital city, Agartala, still remained without rail access for many decades. It was only in 2008 that the railway line finally reached Agartala, bringing a major transformation in travel and connectivity. Later, in 2016, the entire route was converted to BG, allowing seamless train movement between Tripura and the rest of India without changing trains. This marked a new era for the state, boosting trade, tourism, and everyday travel. This is Part 1 of a multi part journey series, where I’ll be covering the complete stretch from Silchar to Churaibari.
