Dyson is preparing for an engineering-based revolution in vertical farming. Soilless farming was once seen as the "food of the future." However, high energy costs, dependence on artificial lighting, and the inability to establish profitable business models led to the failure of many vertical farming ventures. Now, Dyson Farming is entering the scene with a completely different approach, aiming to radically change this perception. Developed with James Dyson's engineering vision, this system uses a hybrid greenhouse model that prioritizes sunlight, unlike traditional vertical farming. The massive facility, established in the UK, operates with movable rail systems that allow plants to make the most efficient use of sunlight, robotic harvesting, and advanced automation technologies. One of Dyson Farming's most critical differences is its biogas plant that generates electricity from agricultural waste. The heat and carbon dioxide produced in this process are used directly in the greenhouses, creating a closed-loop (circular economy) system. This significantly reduces energy costs while making high-quality strawberry production possible even during the winter months. This approach transforms agriculture from a classic production activity into a precision engineering and advanced production process. When renewable energy, agricultural robots, data-driven production, and high-efficiency greenhouse design come together, the chronic profitability problems of vertical farming become realistically achievable for the first time.
