Fernando Savater, sobre la actualidad latinoamericana

January 29, 2019. Fernando Savater leaves the profession of writer and does so with a work that had become his unfinished business. "The Worst Part: Memories of a Love" has served as a personal catharsis for the philosopher, where he recalls the life he shared with his wife. "The purpose of the book is for people to fall in love with Sara the way I did," reflects the author, who is clear that with this publication, he is bringing his career to a close. Savater reflects on the rise of populism in America, from Bolsonaro to Trump: "Demagogues peddle the oppression of the people in the name of the good of the people." Of the US president, he says: "Trump, as bad as he is, is subject to checks and balances that won't allow him to do whatever he wants." The philosopher takes a stand on the crisis in Venezuela and is blunt: "The one who is not elected and has violated the constitution is Maduro." Regarding Juan Guaidó, Savater explains that, with his appointment as President, the Venezuelan politician carried out "a revocation of Maduro's self-proclamation."
