He and his team were responsible in making India a surplus producer of coal. Before joining coal ministry, he was the Director General of labour welfare in the "Labour Ministry”. He has also headed some key government projects, in which Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana was conceptualized and executed by him. Now in every state this scheme is implemented and benefitted millions of poor people, from rickshaw puller to domestic worker. His career, spanning 38 years, revolved around tackling a myriad of issues that ranged from dealing with corruption in the state of Uttar Pradesh to coal mafias, witnessing the aftermath of Babri Masjid demolition to handling education mafias. He has recently authored “NOT JUST A CIVIL SERVANT” in which he has narrated his journey of being a bureaucrat. He addressed more than 550 students at INSIGHTSIAS and inspired them by sharing his journey of being a bureaucrat, giving them useful tips on preparation for UPSC CSE and answering queries of students.
