Madra Salach & Cliffords | Paul Banks and Iona Lynch | Art to Art

In the first episode of Art to Art, Irish artists Iona Lynch (Cliffords) and Paul Banks (Madra Salach) sit down for a chat in Dick Mack’s Pub in Dingle, Co. Kerry, Ireland. Art to Art is a new interview series bringing artists from different disciplines into conversation with one another to discuss each other’s art, creative process, inspirations and upcoming projects. Iona Lynch: Lead Singer of Cliffords 2025 has already been a busy year for the Cork four-piece, making their first moves outside of Ireland and receiving much acclaim across the UK and Europe alongside repeat touring. In Ireland alone, their recent sold out Dublin and Cork shows took in over 2000 fans. The release of their EP, Salt of the Lee, brought them instant recognition – big, smartly crafted songs with heart and soul, and Iona Lynch’s piercing vocal and lyrical dexterity. They’re an electric, compelling live act too, so if 2025 was Cliffords introductory statement of intent, 2026 promises to be their undisputed breakthrough. Paul Banks: Lead Singer of Madra Salach Madra Salach met whilst playing in different outfits on the city's indie scene and bonded over a shared love of the Irish traditional canon which led to them playing impromptu pub sessions. Taking inspiration from the growing experimental folk scene in Ireland, the group added members, instruments and electronic elements to emerge with their own compositions, which are at the same time strikingly modern and written with a voice that could have emerged at any point throughout the last century.
