VO₂max Warum Studien dich oft in die falsche Richtung schicken

Studies show that HIIT often improves VO₂max more than traditional endurance training. So why do elite endurance athletes still predominantly train at low intensity? This episode explores why sports science studies are frequently misinterpreted – and why their findings aren't automatically the best solution for your training practice. Using VO₂max research and the debate surrounding HIIT vs. low-intensity endurance training as examples, I'll show: why context is more important than individual study results why short-term effects aren't automatically superior in the long run and how goals, daily life, stress, and time horizons should influence your training decisions We'll also discuss: the limitations of sports science research internal vs. external validity the difference between recreational and competitive sports periodization and long-term performance development why VO₂max is only one part of the system NOTE: I've referred to studies several times – however, two of the sources are scientific articles. This episode is based, among other sources, on the work of: Christopher J. Stevens, article "The Limitations of Sport-Science Research" - https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40324...
