The "Port Line"
This is a video of The "Port Line" of The Portpatrick & Wigtownshire Joint Railway shot by a railway enthusiast. It features footage over a number of services originating at Dumfries Railway Station and terminating at Stranraer Town Railway Station, before heading back to Dumfires again. All of the footage in this video was shot during the last week of operations before closure of the line in June 1965. The first part of the video is of the camera operator departing Dumfries Station for Stranraer Town Station. This is on at least two different train services as the person filming gets off of the train numerous times to get footage before sometimes getting onto a different train. The first part of the video is narrated by an unknown Scottish lady, over the top of some classical music. The next part features some typical scenes at the harbour itself, complete with some ferry operations and a brief history of the line by another unknown narrator. The last part of the video is filmed from a train departing Stranraer Harbour for Dumfries, and features the route in its entirety. This footage is sped up, and the camera was set up looking rearward as the train departs, capturing the line in reverse. The return trip video has some more classical music with basic notes mentioned by the narrator. The original video is held at The National Library of Scotland and is available in its original condition on their website. This upload has been resized and edited to increase and improve the audio and improve the overall colour and sharpness of the images. I hope this is of interest to those wanting to see the state of the line and also the stunning scenery in the southwest of Scotland.
