Fire Safety Failings Continue: No Alarm and Stay Put Questioned After East London Fire

Fire safety failings in the capital have been brought to the forefront once again, after a huge fire at a block of flats in Whitechapel yesterday. The fire started on the 17th floor, but there was no audible fire alarms, instead residents warned each other to leave their homes. Residents have criticised what happened, and claim that they'd raised concerns over the building's stay put' policy some time ago. They'd also raised concerns over the building's flammable balconies -- but although its management companies had asked the Government 2 years ago to fund their removal, no funds were made available.
