Born into the famous Krupp family, Alfried inherited a business empire that had supplied weapons, steel, and heavy industry to Germany for generations. As Adolf Hitler rose to power, Krupp positioned himself close to the regime and became an important figure within Germany’s expanding military economy. His factories produced tanks, artillery, submarines, armour plating, and essential equipment used across multiple fronts during the Second World War. As the conflict expanded eastward following Operation Barbarossa, demand for labour increased dramatically. This documentary explores how prisoners of war, deported civilians, and concentration camp inmates became an increasingly important part of Krupp production. Evidence presented after the war revealed the scale of forced labour used throughout the company’s enormous industrial network. The documentary also examines the company’s relationship with Auschwitz, the movement of prisoners into industrial production, and the role economic interests played in sustaining wartime manufacturing. It follows Krupp’s arrest after the collapse of Nazi Germany, the trials that followed, and the controversial decisions that allowed him to rebuild much of his fortune only a few years later.
