The Holy Rosary: Joyful Mysteries – Monday, June 29, 2026 | Sts. Peter and Paul

Today we pray the Holy Rosary with the Joyful Mysteries for the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles. In the First Reading, King Herod imprisons Peter and the Church prays fervently on his behalf — and on the night before his trial, an angel of the Lord appears, the chains fall from his wrists, and he walks free through iron gates that open on their own, not fully believing what is happening until he stands alone in the street (Acts 12:1–11). In the Second Reading, Paul writes from the edge of his own death: he has competed well, finished the race, and kept the faith — and the Lord stood by him even when no one else did (2 Timothy 4:6–8, 17–18). In the Gospel, Jesus asks his disciples the question every soul must answer: "Who do you say that I am?" Peter answers without hesitation — "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God" — and Jesus declares that this confession is the rock on which the whole Church will be built, and that the gates of the netherworld will not prevail against it (Matthew 16:13–19). The Joyful Mysteries carry us into the humble, hidden origins of that same Church — conceived in Mary's yes, visited in Elizabeth's home, born in a stable, presented in the Temple, and found again in the Father's house. Peter and Paul were nothing alike, yet both built their lives on that same answer. Today we are invited to give it ourselves. These readings reveal a God who rescues from prison, sustains through suffering, and builds his Church not on the strength of perfect men but on the grace of honest confession. Peter denied Jesus and became the Rock. Paul persecuted the Church and became its greatest missionary. What the Lord asks of us is not perfection — it is the willingness to say, with our whole lives: you are the Christ. As we pray the Joyful Mysteries through the intercession of Mary, we ask for the courage of Peter, the zeal of Paul, and the faith to answer his question without hesitation.
