Introduction to Encoding a RAIN RFID Label with an RFID Printer
This presentation will outline the basics of what a RAIN RFID label is, the available data formatting standards, and how to generate a properly formatted basic SGTIN-96 label with a Printronix RFID printer. Many people think that simply encoding a unique serial number to each label is sufficient. But the proper data formatting standards and “scheme” must all be followed to ensure that your tags are later read when they should be – and not read when they should not be. With the growth of RFID, users need to properly format the data on their tags to avoid “RAIN Flooding” (too many tags for a reader to process in an allotted time) and “Acid RAIN” (tags from another application interfering with the target application). This presentation will help you take the first steps to properly formatting the data on your RFID labels and avoiding the problems of improperly encoded labels. SPEAKER Chris Brown is the RFID Subject Matter at TSC Printronix Auto ID, a company fully committed to the growth of RAIN (UHF Passive) RFID as an autoID technology. After spending 20 years in Europe as the EMEA General Manager for BarTender label software, Chris moved back to America in 2017 and joined TSC Printronix. He is responsible for ensuring that TSC Printronix’s RFID printers support the latest commands and functionalities that are needed to properly work with RAIN RFID labels and tags. He also monitors the physical requirements needed for RFID printers to work with various existing and emerging tag constructions. Chris is an active member of AIM and the RAIN RFID Alliance, participating in multiple workgroups covering topics such as pharmaceutical, healthcare, tires, aviation and label software guidelines for tag encoding.
