A Close Look at the Bug Catching Contest in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver
One aspect of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver that I always find myself revisiting is the Bug Catching Contest. There is just something so simple and joyous about engaging with this mechanic the three times a week it shows up. While this mechanic is far more simple than other well-known game mechanics like the Battle Frontier and Pokémon Contests, I think it offers a lot for us to study about ways that a game can give us a fun challenge, gameplay variety and immersive world-building.
