Warsztaty drukarskie i drzeworytnicze - Tadeusz Grajpel w Antykwariacie Abecadło - Pochód Lajkonika
Gutenberg's invention, namely typesetting and a working replica of a 15th-century printing press, will be presented live in the Abecadło Antiquarian Bookstore Garden by Master Tadeusz Grajpel. We will experience the creative process that led to the greatest civilizational breakthrough. We will learn about Gutenberg's life, the creator of the first printing press for printing texts, and discuss the historical background of his work. 🙂 During the workshops at Abecadło Antiquarian Bookstore, Tadeusz Grajpel will offer the opportunity to see facsimiles of absolutely unique texts printed by Gutenberg, which are held in the Jagiellonian Library, and pages of the Pelplin Bible, a unique copy found in Polish collections. To help us understand this groundbreaking printing technology, he will show us the aforementioned printing press in action. This will be preceded by a presentation of the invention's foundation: the metal type. Using a prepared box, participants take on the role of a typesetter, setting up words, such as a name, to understand the concept of how the font works. These self-composed words are, of course, copied and collected by the participants. Master Tadeusz Grajpel aims to demonstrate technological continuity and the presence of elements of historical typography, which can be seen even in computers, recalling the origins of names such as spaces and line spacing. 🙂 A particularly engaging element of the demonstrations is the use of an old typewriter, thanks to which participants learn why their computer keyboard has the character layout it does. Naturally, they must write something themselves and collect their text. What else can we expect during workshops with Tadeusz Grajpel at the Abecadło Antiquarian Bookstore? We will learn, among other things, about early Polish printing. We will discuss the beginnings of texts printed in Polish, such as Father Elyan's prayers from 1474, and the key history of Krakow printing from the 15th century and its development during the Renaissance. Form – the appearance of the old typeface as an obvious element of the culture of the time and an educational proposition, i.e., engaging participants in attempting to read such texts. Discussion of genres and topics – religious books, entertainment books, academic textbooks, guides, heraldic books, and many others. Tadeusz Grajpel about himself: I was born in 1955 and live in Końskie, where I founded and have run my own studio since 1994, dedicated to recreating old technologies related to the history of documents, books, and woodcuts. For over a decade, this has been the Historical Research and Education Studio. Back in the previous century, I created the first replica of a Gutenberg printing press in Poland for general education. It still operates today, in accordance with historical realities, naturally based on typesetting. It is used for a wide range of educational activities in the history of printing, as well as for pressing a variety of short source and bibliophile texts. The Abecadło Antiquarian Bookstore, founded in 2007, is located on the site of the former Guardian Angel Pharmacy, near Lajkonik Zwierzyniecki Square and the Jubilat bus stop. Its unique interior features historic pharmacy furniture from 1899, which we managed to save and bring back to life – albeit in a slightly different form. Today, the medications and other pharmacy products have been replaced by a diverse selection of thousands of books, cartoons, comics, magazines, graphics, posters, postcards, photographs, maps, prints and documents, and even vinyl records. The Abecadło Antiquarian Bookstore is not only a place to buy and sell used, old, and antique books and various publications, but also a place for literary, cultural, and social gatherings, which we invite you to participate in! The Abecadło Antiquarian Bookstore cordially invites everyone to donate rare, antique books and contemporary, limited-edition, scholarly, specialized, artistic, and collectible publications, including those with dedications and autographs from the authors. We are seeking valuable books, publications, graphics, paintings, fairy tales, comics, magazines, posters, postcards, photographs, maps, rare prints, brochures, and documents for auctions organized by the Abecadło Antiquarian Bookstore. The Abecadło Antiquarian Bookstore in Krakow has been purchasing books for over 20 years. We primarily accept highly specialized, scholarly books, published in limited editions, and those not available commercially, such as those from the history, art, psychology, religious studies, ethnography, regional studies, book studies, and bibliophilia categories. We are interested in vintage books, publications, posters, playbills, cartoons in good condition, comics, prints, postcards published before 1950, photographs, maps, ephemera, documents, and even undamaged and unscratched vinyl records of jazz and rock music. Abecadło Antiquarian Bookstore is a beneficiary of the Bo...
