The Untold History of the United States with director Oliver Stone & writer Peter Kuznick
On May 5, the Institute of Politics and the Department of History welcomed Academy Award winning filmmaker Oliver Stone, director of films including JFK, NIXON, W. and the upcoming SNOWDEN, to campus. Stone has described his body of work as “controversial versions of recent American history, some of them at deep odds with conventional myth.” The event began with a screening Episode 3 of The Untold History of the United States; which explores the strategies behind the atomic bombings of Japan. After the screening, UChicago professor Bruce Cumings interviewed Mr. Stone and Peter Kuznick, historian and writer of the Untold series. Kuznick is Professor of History and Director of the Nuclear Studies Institute at American University.
