I absolutely loved the show and Nami's character arc resonated deeply with me--this song captures her spirit so well!! I knew instantly this was gonna be a symphonic metal cover, but I got the idea to have a lot of folk influences too, since pirate-y music (and the OST of One Piece) is inspired by folk music! I went for a Celtic folk direction on the intro since I love Celtic music, and a lot of sea shanties and other pirate-associated styles are Celtic influenced. I really wanted to use a hurdy-gurdy, since I associate that sound with both pirates and folk metal, and got lucky since I found a free VST instrument that sounds quite good in the mix I think. This arrangement was heavily inspired by the band Eluveitie, as they are known for using the hurdy-gurdy in their folk/Celtic metal songs and are also one of my favorite metal bands! I'm a big fan of their former gurdy player, Michalina Malisz, and her band Lyrre as well, so I tried to write gurdy parts that were similar to her playing style. I asked my amazing friend Mero to sing on it and WOW did she crush it, Aurora is not an easy singer to cover and Mero nailed her style while also bringing her own style to the cover! That massive belt on the last chorus still blows my mind LOL. Overall I'm super proud of this arrange and think it turned out awesome, def one of my fave covers I've done--hope you think so too!!
