MAKE A BASIC METAL PULLEY ON THE LATHE

Just a quick video on making a basic metal pulley for Egg Gondola Project This video is aimed at students in my Grade 11 Engineering course and the way we can build things here. Safety stuff: My dangling custom ear protection is in my ear when operating but you may see it hanging when I am in between processes. I try to make smart choices! Suggested steps: 1. Face until smooth as shown in demo using facing bit. Face it better than I did. I was in a rush for this video! 2. Center Drill 3. Drill axle holes (drill a little extra for the next person) 4. Install smaller round cutting bit and begin turning to desired diameter 5. Install parting tool and ensure it is correct height and angle 6. Slowly use parting tool and move on your X-axis slowly until pulley drops into the basket below 7. Before reaching down to grab it make sure machine is off/locked out and you don't burn your fingers picking up the metal. Use gloves when handling hot metal but not when operating the lathe 8. Clean up the machine with a brush and get it ready for the next student making their pulley from the remaining piece of aluminium!
