Through several simple examples, we will explore the correlation between two variables. We will discuss scatter plots (also called Cartesian plots) and examine what happens when there is no statistical link, when there is a linear relationship, and when there is a non-linear relationship. Finally, with an example, we will learn how to insert this Cartesian plot into Excel and discuss the concepts of trend lines, R², and linear, exponential, and logarithmic relationships. Therefore, in this video, we will see that two variables have no statistical relationship if: the scatter plot appears horizontal the scatter plot appears vertical the scatter plot appears random We will see that there are two types of linear relationships: a positive linear relationship, if the slope is positive a negative linear relationship, if the slope is negative We will see that there are non-linear relationships, such as: an inverse relationship (1/x form) a logarithmic relationship (log form) an exponential relationship (exp form) … Finally, in Excel, we will learn how to insert a scatter plot.
