Do you wonder How is the career after Computer Science or Information Technology in Canada? In this video, I will discuss with my friend Jagmeet, who is a recent graduate in Masters of Computer Science in Canada. Jagmeet had completed his Btech in Computer Science from Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College in Ludhiana. He worked in India at Accenture for over two years. As a fresher with Computer science background, you can expect a starting pay of 7 to 8 lakhs per annum in India. He did his intense research on specialization in Computer science and that’s when he decided to move to Canada for higher studies. As an inspiring student, you must do your own research based on your interest and relevant experience. There are many specialization one can pursue after computer science and some of them are as follows: a. Cyber Security b. Full Stack Web Developer c. AI and Machine Learning d. Software Engineer (Coding) e. Cloud Computing f. Network Computing The first step to moving abroad is to identify the best possible course based on your interest. The next step is to find relevant university offering the program of your interest. It is highly recommended to do your self research and not make a decision based on immigration agent advice. You can pursue higher studies in Canada in Computer science from Universities like University of British Columbia, University of Waterloo, University of Toronto, McGill University, University of Windsor, etc. The course fees can vary from 20,000 CAD to 60,000 CAD for a complete masters degree. We also talked about the difference in education in India vs Canada. As per our experience, the education in Canada is more practical with more emphasis on hands-on experience. The labs are more intense with full availability of machines, equipment’s and all the resources. The major difference lies in the professors as Professors are from market industry who have worked in the same field for over 10 years plus years, compared to Indian professors in most cases do not have experience working in the same industry. As a result, you get more insights in the course projects and discuss the actual problems that you might face once you have your job. Moving towards the salaries in Computer science field in Canada, one can expect to start at 70,000 to 75,000 CAD Annual as a fresher and this salary can go upto 150,000 to 200,000 CAD with experience. For the students having relevant work experience in India, they will surely have some advantage over the fresher candidates so it is best to have 1 to 2 years of work experience in similar field in India or your home country. Talking about the job market in Canada, Recession has hit Canada Hard. As a result, there are less job posting and hiring freezes in most companies in Canada. The ideal time to find a field job in Canada has increased to about 3 months due to this recession. However, things will improve and get better by 2024-2025.
