Naturopathic Medicine in Australia| Interaction with Dr. Amie Steel

Naturopathic Medicine is a recognized form of medicine across the world. The World Health Organization also recognizes Naturopathic Medicine. There are few countries in which the training and practice of Naturopathic Medicine are streamlined. Australia is one such country, where naturopathy is popular and practiced widely through structured medical curricula. To make us understand the practice of Naturopathic Medicine in Australia, we hosted Dr. Amie Steel, senior naturopathy and public health professional from Australia. Dr Amie Steel is a naturopath and Senior Research Fellow at the Australian Research Centre in Complementary and Integrative Medicine, University of Technology Sydney. Amie has attracted more than $1M in research funding in the last 2 years and holds editorial appointments for a number of journals. She has authored over 150 journal articles, contributed to over 30 book chapters, and edited three special journal issues and three research books. She is on the executive committee for the Public Health Association of Australia’s Queensland Branch and sits on the executive for two PHAA Special Interest Groups: Women’s Health and Evidence, Research and Policy in Complementary Medicine. She is also on the executive committee for the Australian Health Promotion Association. Her research interests include women’s health - with a particular focus on pregnancy, fertility and preconception health –; the practice, integration and regulation of naturopathy; and the interface between evidence-based medicine and naturopathic practice.
