Chilean weightlifting had a great day in the 85-kilogram category, with Arley Méndez winning the gold medal in the Olympic total, lifting a total of 377 kilos. The reigning world champion broke the Pan American and South American Games record. Kevin Wormald also won a bronze medal, totaling 330 kilos after lifting 146 kilos in the snatch and 184 kilos in the clean and jerk.
