Holzspalter Test: Scheppach HL660 / HL460 - Wie gut ist der Baumarkt Holzspalter in der Praxis?
I'm testing the Scheppach HL660 log splitter (here's the newer successor, the HL760: https://amzn.to/3AHQMnc) for you. It's identical to the cheaper HL460 (https://amzn.to/3XuYTcj), except the support surface is 15 cm smaller and the splitter has a splitting force of 4 tons instead of 6.5. For home use, the smaller model is probably sufficient. The newer Scheppach HL760 model has slightly more splitting force (7 tons) and a 2 cm larger support surface than the HL660. Scheppach Log Splitter Review I've been using the Scheppach log splitter for a few months now and have experienced its advantages and disadvantages firsthand :-) In my video, I'll show you how it works, what to look out for, and what's not so great. Scheppach HL660 / HL 460 Assembly The Scheppach arrives ready for use. The box is huge and incredibly heavy (over 50 kg). If you want to avoid the hassle of lugging it around, simply order it online. Scheppach ships the HL660 and HL440 models with a protective grille to eliminate the potential danger of flying logs. The idea is good, but in practice, it severely limits operation due to a maximum diameter of 25 cm. Furthermore, the installation instructions are a complete disaster, so I'm skipping them for mine. Scheppach HL460 and HL 660 Instructions The log splitter comes with a standard power plug, meaning you simply plug it into the socket and you're ready to go. Before you start splitting logs, you have to open the hydraulic screw. But that's it. The Scheppach log splitter is designed for two-handed operation. With one hand, you operate the motor and the other the hydraulic system. To split a piece of wood, the switch and lever must be pressed simultaneously. Scheppach HL660 / HL460 in Practice It does what it's supposed to: It splits wood – any wood that fits. It's easy to use. Only a workbench or a stand would be more practical, as standing on grass is naturally a bit unstable. The power plug is only 1.5m long, so an extension cord is almost always necessary. The Scheppach log splitter is relatively slow, so it's not for professional users. Scheppach Log Splitter Review It's absolutely fine for private use. Since it's available in many hardware stores, you can buy it at any time. Scheppach is also a German manufacturer and not a cheap Chinese product. The price of €270 (HL 660o) or €240 (HL 460) is absolutely fair and reasonable for the product and for private use. I would buy the log splitter again!
