See how contemporary ceramic virtuosos from Rishtan, Uzbekistan's "city of craftsmen," interpret ancient craft traditions; learn the basics of ceramic patterns; discover who kuzagars and nakkoshis are and why they use azhdarkho and sarshuyak; and how Rishtan glazes and lapis lazuli differ from others. All this can be experienced at the exhibition "New Ceramics of Ancient Rishtan" starting August 30 in the Kazakov Hall of the Grand Palace. For the first time in 30 years, Moscow will be able to display works by the finest masters from the ceramic capital of Uzbekistan—Rishtan in the Fergana Region. It is there that mass production of ceramic tableware is actively reviving and family crafts are developing. In 2021, the International Ceramics Center opened in the city, where twenty dynasties of masters, preserving the traditions of Rishtan crafts, live and work under one roof. Visitors to the exhibition will see their work – more than two hundred original pieces, from traditional lyagans (pilaf dishes with a recognizable turquoise pattern) to sarshuyak (whimsical bowls for washing the bride’s head).
