🍕☕ La CAMPANIA - Le Regioni d'Italia (Geografia) 📚🌍
Campania is a region in southern Italy. It borders Lazio and Molise to the north, Puglia to the northeast, and Basilicata to the southeast. To the west, it is bathed by the Tyrrhenian Sea. The innermost area of the region is occupied by the Campanian Apennines, consisting of arid and barren reliefs, subject to landslides and seismic phenomena; proceeding towards the coast, you encounter a hilly area, then a flat area consisting of the Campanian Plain, the volcanic plain of the Campi Flegrei and the Piana del Sele. The main rivers are the Volturno, the Sele and the Garigliano. Near Naples, Vesuvius rises, a large, still active volcano that has made the surrounding plain fertile. Even in the Campi Flegrei area, there are phenomena of volcanic origin, with craters that release jets of steam called fumaroles. The coasts, bathed by the Tyrrhenian Sea, are largely high and jagged, interrupted by large gulfs. The stretch of coast from Sorrento to Salerno is called the Amalfi Coast and is known throughout the world for its beauty. The islands of the Campanian Archipelago, formed by Ischia, Capri and Procida, are also part of the region. The climate is Mediterranean: mild in winter and hot in summer. Campania is in second place, after Lombardy, for number of inhabitants who, however, are not uniformly distributed in the region. In fact, a fifth of the entire population lives in Naples, which is the regional capital. The other provinces are Caserta, Benevento, Avellino and Salerno. Thanks to the mild climate, agriculture is very developed in the coastal area and in the fertile plains, where cereals, fruit and vegetables are grown, in particular San Marzano tomatoes. In the hilly areas, however, citrus fruits, vines and olive trees are grown. There are many woods, from which hazelnuts and chestnuts are obtained. The food industries are very developed and produce preserves, oil, wine and pasta. We particularly remember the Gragnano PGI pasta. The dairies receive a lot of milk from buffalo farms, with which buffalo mozzarella is produced. The sea is very rich in fish and offers a wide variety of fish, among which we mention in particular the menaica anchovies that take their name from the artisanal nets with which they are caught. The typical regional dish par excellence is pizza, which has made Italy famous throughout the world. The undisputed king of the Campania Easter tables is the casatiello, a bread dough into which the eggs are inserted whole, raw and in their shell. The Campania pastry shop boasts many desserts, including sfogliatelle, babà and pastiera. In recent years, in the areas of Naples, Caserta and Salerno, mechanical and steel industries have developed, where metals are worked. Craftsmanship is very flourishing: an exemplary product is the wonderful porcelain of Capodimonte, while the artisans of San Gregorio Armeno, in Naples, are skilled in creating figurines for nativity scenes. But Campania is rich in many other traditions, such as the suspended coffee, which consists of paying in advance for a coffee for the next customer who cannot afford it, or the tarantella, a traditional Neapolitan dance, often associated with parties and celebrations. Finally, we cannot fail to mention the Feast of San Gennaro, the patron saint of Naples: tradition has it that every year the blood of the saint, preserved in two ampoules, melts in the presence of the faithful, bringing good luck to the city for the year to come. Tourism is very important: Campania, in fact, is rich in cities of art, such as the enchanting Naples and Caserta, where the homonymous Royal Palace stands, a splendid residence built in the 18th century and surrounded by a park full of pools and fountains. But Campania also has many archaeological sites, such as Paestum and the famous Pompeii and Herculaneum, which were buried almost intact under meters of ash and volcanic debris after the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. Thanks to the archaeological excavations that brought them to light, today the two cities are visited by thousands of Italian and foreign tourists. Seaside tourism is also a flagship of the region: the Amalfi coast and the islands of the Campania archipelago offer unforgettable seaside stays to tourists from all over the world. The island of Ischia is also famous for its many thermal parks, whose healing waters give health and well-being to those lucky enough to visit them.
