Stockholm Summer Streets: Jakobsbergsgatan. Walking with friendly figures & cool cats.

Join me for a slow walk on a warm summer day. No talking, no guiding, just a leisurely stroll in central Stockholm, Sweden. Jakobsbergsgatan is a street in the Norrmalm district of central Stockholm. It stretches from Birger Jarlsgatan in the east to Malmskillnadsgatan in the west. The street is transformed annually into a summer pedestrian street. The stretch is furnished with colorful benches, lush plant boxes and expanded outdoor seating to create a pleasant and safe meeting place in the middle of the city. Art has an important role and Siri Carlén's colorful and imaginative sculptures bring a sense of creativity and joy to Jakobsbergsgatan, which, to be honest, is more of a back street without them. When her first sculpture family “Mamma Barn” (mother child) moved onto the street in 2022, she said: “- I have thought a lot about the encounter with the viewer, both those who just happen to pass by and those who actively seek out the works. I have tried to be in the playful, the soft, kind and fun. That is also exactly what I think is needed and often missing in a harsh and cold urban environment” Since then, more art has been added: ‘Pink Water’ and ‘My Beautiful Octopus’ by Hilda Tenow Benulic and Johanna Ekström.
