Tajna misja majora Skorzenego [Operacja "Freischütz']

In the summer of 1944, after the disastrous Operation Bagration for the Wehrmacht, Colonel Heinrich Scherhorn's battle group of approximately 2,500 soldiers was still fighting behind the Red Army lines. The encircled Germans needed ammunition, food, medicine, and winter clothing, and hundreds of wounded men required immediate evacuation. The German command decided to come to their aid. Military intelligence, special units of the Luftwaffe, and Otto Skorzeny were called into action. Transport planes, paratroopers, radio operators, and supply containers began to appear over Soviet lines. Even the construction of a secret airstrip from which the entire unit could be evacuated was considered. This was one of the most extraordinary and costly special operations of the late World War II. The story of a desperate rescue mission, intelligence mismanagement, and soldiers cut off hundreds of kilometers behind the front lines.
