How To Grow Bougainvillea in Hanging Baskets & Containers // Growing Tropical 🌴😃

Greetings from South Florida! In my video today I will be talking about the Bougainvillea plant. Bougainvillea is a tropical vining shrub that comes in a wide array of beautiful colors. Bougainvillea produce "flowers" that are actually modified leaves called bracts. These bracts outshine the plant's true (very tiny) flower inside of the bracts, much like the Poinsettia plant. While the Bougainvillea does produce color on and off for most of the year, it's especially colorful in our winter months (Oct - Mar) when the splashes of color are a welcomed sight to see. Bougainvilleas require a full sun and actually perform better when their soil is left a little dry, making this a perfect plant for the drought-tolerant landscape. I have grown Bougainvillea in my landscape over the years, however, they will get quite large and quickly out of control if not tended to often. Trimming these shrubs can be tricky since they produce thorny stems that get large as the plant matures. Bougainvillea grow beautifully in hanging baskets and containers as well and are a lot easier to manage. Bougainvillea is zoned 9-11 so If you live in a cooler climate, growing Bougainvillea in container's makes them easy to bring indoors out of the harsh weather. Okay, Enough writing about these beauties, now it's time for me to show them, Enjoy!
