Feyzi Filiz, who performed as a drummer in Bursa for many years, is now working as a shepherd and drumming instructor in Diyarbakır, his hometown, after returning there at his family's request. Born in Diyarbakır in 1984, Filiz learned to play the drums at a young age, inspired by his older brother who played at weddings. In his final year of high school, he formed a music group with his friends and began playing drums in cafes where they performed. After high school, Filiz worked in various sectors in Antalya and İzmir, continuing his passion for drumming. He settled in Bursa at the request of his family, and as part of his music group, he participated in programs broadcast on local television channels. After the group disbanded, Filiz performed in various venues in the city for a long time. Although his family returned to their hometown of Diyarbakır in 2008, Filiz continued to live and work as a drummer in Bursa. About two years ago, Filiz decided to return to her family's hometown, the rural Başil neighborhood of Yenişehir district, to help them with their livestock farming. Taking care of her family's cows and working as a shepherd, Filiz also gives drum lessons to children and adults twice a week at a private art center in the city center. - "I left my residence life and became a shepherd." Known in the rural neighborhood as "The Shepherd with Earrings" and "The Shepherd with Tattoos," the 42-year-old drummer Filiz said that as a child she tried to keep rhythm by hitting spoons on the table, plates, and pots. She said she was inspired by her older brother who played the drums and learned to play over time. She explained that she joined a music group in Bursa, where she lived for a while, and that she and her group performed in cafes and played the drums. Filiz stated that they received offers from two local television channels in the city, saying, "We performed there on certain days of the week and worked with famous artists. I also played drums on stage with the late Harun Kolçak and Fatih Ürek. Later, we started working with the singer Doğuş, and I played drums at his concerts in many cities. During that period, I began to see that I was on the professional side of this business." Filiz added that the music group, which consisted of university and high school students, disbanded due to those who had to leave the city, and that he continues to play drums individually in the city. Filiz, who stated that she had a good income at that time, described her return to her hometown as follows: "After my brother went to Germany, my mother started calling me back to our hometown. I made a decision suddenly, left my residence life, settled in the village, and became a shepherd. My adaptation process wasn't difficult, or at least it didn't seem difficult to me. Thankfully, my mother and father were very supportive in that regard. I milk the cows, graze them, feed them, and clean them. I take all the burden off my mother and father and do my best to ensure they live a comfortable, peaceful, and healthy life." "I was very much looked down upon because of my earrings, piercings, and tattoos" Filiz stated that when she first returned to the rural neighborhood, people reacted differently because of her earrings and tattoos, saying, "When I first arrived, I was very much looked down upon because of my earrings, piercings, and tattoos.
