Out of desperation, the mayor pardons a notorious gunfighter rotting in a jail cell and hands him a sheriff's star, gambling that it takes a dangerous man to break a dangerous town. The newly freed gunslinger rides in and wastes no time: he fires the corrupt deputy, defies the ruthless political boss who runs Emporia like his personal kingdom, and starts cleaning house with cold, methodical force. But the job comes loaded with more than gunfighters — his former fiancée, the only woman he ever loved, is now the wife of the town's gentle preacher; the vengeful Jenner family is already sharpening blades for the man who killed their brother; and the very ally he brought in to watch his back may be the first to put a bullet in it.
