Jeremy Harmer in New York: A Double Program | The New School for Public Engagement

Jeremy Harmer, a writer, trainer and teacher, is a faculty member in the MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages program at The New School (http://www.newschool.edu/matesol). Among his books are the prize winning Essential Teacher Knowledge, The Practice of English Language Teaching, How to Teach Writing, and How to Teach English. A frequent speaker at conferences around the world, Jeremy has also recently recorded a CD of poetry and music with his friend, musician Steve Bingham. Lecture: Six key questions for teachers and trainers at the crossroads This session will take six key issues -- the use of IT, CLIL, the benefits/disadvantages of language testing, repetition (and behaviorism), correction and rapport -- to demonstrate the diversity of opinion in an international ELT world. Jeremy will then suggest what a core methodology should look like in the light of such diversity.
