Everything about this town is wonderful – its location on a hill, offering views of Lake Constance unlike any other town on the coast. And the magnificent historical buildings, unchanged for the last two or three hundred years. Despite its small size, it is home to the only medieval castle in the area and three palaces. Meersburg is located on the northern shore of Lake Constance between the towns of Friedrichshafen and Überlingen, where the Upper Lake (Obersee) merges into the Überlinger See. The distance to the opposite shore, with the city of Konstanz, is only 5 km. Meersburg is located on two levels: some of the city streets extend along the lower level near the waterfront, while the most picturesque part of the town is located on a hill. Its architecture seamlessly blends several architectural styles from different eras, from half-timbered to Baroque. I'm very pleased with the lack of modern elements; the historical buildings are very cohesive, just the way I like them. The town is very small; an hour of leisurely walking, with breaks for photos, is enough to explore the upper level. Meersburg has a river port, and the ferry service to Constance will be the next town we'll visit. Numerous regular passenger boats depart from here, connecting all the towns along the coast.
