A Yoga Practice for Hallux Rigidus | Arthritis of the Foot
You may experience arthritis in your feet and toes due to age, repetitive actions, athletics, injury, genetics and other reasons. This video provides a specialized yoga practise for arthritis of the large toe, also known as Hallux Rigidus. The cartilage in the large toe may wear down causing narrowing of the joint and bone spurs may also form. As arthritis of the large toe joint advances, it can become a site of debilitating pain and restriction and may eventually lead to surgical intervention. This yoga practise demonstrates a sequence of important yoga postures to practise in order to create stability for the large toe joint, and improve and increase range of motion and flexibility for the first metatarsophalangeal joint (MTP) joint. Practising this sequence of poses independently at home will help to greatly manage pain, help you to take control of your condition, and engage in preventative measures for avoiding worsening of the condition.
