The COVID-19 pandemic and the climate crisis have revitalized a school of thought that emerged in the 1970s: degrowth. Originally, degrowth was conceived as a third, anti-productivist way, opposing both capitalism and planned economies. Today, it presents itself as a radical response to the turmoil of the contemporary economy, which is accused of spreading social ills and exacerbating the environmental crisis. In this series of lectures, we will examine the main concepts and ideas behind degrowth, while also acknowledging its limitations and criticisms.
