The National Assembly approved in its first reading a law to open the Venezuelan electricity sector to private participation for the first time in almost 20 years. Although the second reading is still pending, and given the oversight of the United States and the internal crisis, everything indicates that this is part of the urgent changes being sought in Venezuela. It is therefore necessary to analyze expectations versus the reality of a system with major problems. In this interview on TVV Network, I spoke with Alexis Barroso, a doctoral candidate in Engineering Sciences at UCAB, an electrical engineer graduated from USB, with a specialization in Power Systems from UCV and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from UCV. Barroso also has experience in operations and operations planning at the National Dispatch Center, formerly OPSIS, which allows him to analyze more precisely the current state of the Venezuelan electrical system, the causes of its deterioration, the technical challenges, the need for investment, and the time it may take for recovery.
