Motorcyle Paint Test Light Vs Dark Base Crystal Fx

Crystal FX Light Base vs Dark Base: Does Color Order Matter? In this episode of Paint Shack Experiments: Crystal FX, we’re testing one specific variable: color order. Most Crystal FX custom paint examples use a light metallic base, crystal solution, and a darker contrast color sprayed over the crystals. But can you reverse that process? Can you start with a dark base and spray a lighter contrast color over the Crystal FX pattern? For this test, I’m using the automotive silver and automotive black panels from our controlled test panel setup. The Rust-Oleum spray paint panels are not part of this episode — those are getting their own test later. Today’s test: Silver automotive base with black overcoat. Black automotive base with silver overcoat. Same Crystal FX solution. Same application method. Same shop conditions. Same removal process. The goal is simple: find out whether Crystal FX color order matters, how the results change, and which version I’d actually trust on a real motorcycle part. This series is built around answering viewer questions from the Drunk Monkey Garage Crystal FX videos by testing one variable at a time.
