MH3U session: The obligatory dual Rath quest

A classic test of skill in old gen MH games was a Rathalos and Rathian hunt. Lore always states that the two hunt as a pair once they bond with each other, and the quest was meant to reflect that. As such, they would often be in the same zones or enter the zone you are currently battling in. Dung bombs covered the whole area back before gen 3, and had a very decent chance to fail to scatter the wyverns, or they would both leave only to end up in the same zone again. In MH3, the devs improved the a.i. of the classic duo quite a bit, making it a point to highlight their teamwork. The big feature was one answering the call for help, which was really cool to see when playing in multiplayer. You and one other hunter could be battling the rathalos and the other quest members would be fighting the rathian. If the rathian was enraged, the rathalos would hear it's cry, look around for a bit, then fly off to aid his mate, or vice versa. They would also home in on a hunter who nicked one of their eggs, chasing you from zone to zone. It was good stuff to see. With this feature, along with the mimicry of Quropeco, dung bombs became a important item to have in the bag , which were also changed to act like a paint ball, which improved the chances of separating wyverns who were in the same zone. If the one that was struck didn't leave, the other most likely would have, as the stench would drive them away. I didn't bring dung bombs. Wanting to mix things up, I farmed Lagiacrus offscreen to upgrade the Lag hammer. It's quite powerful, especially in village high rank. Many a glorious bonk was had, and as always the magnificent duo that are Chacha and Kayamba continue to prove that shakalakas are better than felynes. Next up is the other big bad of of the village, and the template to the Lagiacrus we have today in Wilds, the Ivory Lagiacrus. Until the next session
