Saab 96 (1960-1980) : Atypique

🎥 Saab 96 (1960–1980): The Unconventional Originator of Aeronautics Born in 1960, the Saab 96 is the latest evolution of a lineage that began in 1949, created by a company whose origins were anything but automotive: Svenska Aeroplan AktieBolaget. A direct heir to Saab's aeronautical expertise, the 96 retains a truly unique identity: a rigid monocoque body, safety features far ahead of its time, meticulous aerodynamics, a three-cylinder two-stroke engine later replaced by a Ford V4, and a technical architecture that has no equal anywhere. A model that evolved significantly, it adopted numerous improvements over the years: a modernized front end, a more powerful V4 engine, disc brakes, enhanced equipment… all while retaining its unmistakable silhouette. Famous for its handling, less so for its performance, the Saab 96 nevertheless forged an exceptional rally record: Sweden, RAC, Finland, Monte Carlo… An impressive sporting career that lasted until the 1970s, well after the end of the two-stroke versions. Produced in nearly 550,000 units, it remains today one of the most iconic symbols of Scandinavian motoring. 🔗 Official Links The Carnets of the Automobile 📘 Our books The Carnets of the Automobile (Amazon): https://www.amazon.fr/s?k=les+carnets...
