The History of the Benz Patent Motorwagen - The World's First Car

In the late 1800's Karl Benz created a machine that would go on to change the world forever. This creation was of course the Benz Patent Motorwagen, the first car in history. While numerous other attempts had been made to create a self-powered machine, the Motorwagen was considered the first true automobile as it could move under its own power entirely. The Motorwagen would also be involved in the world's first long distance trip when Karl's wife, Bertha Benz, took the vehicle on a long distance trip from Mannheim to her hometown of Pforzheim. With the creation of the Motorwagen, Karl Benz brought about a new age of transport. He would go on to release many more self-powered vehicles and eventually his company would merge with Daimler to form Mercedes-Benz, one of the world's most iconic car brands.
