Play Away S8E3 (1978) - FULL EPISODE

Money Money Money. Brian Cant, Tony Robinson, Anita Dobson, and Julie Stevens are on duty for more of the usual sketches, jokes, and musical fun, and the title of the episode should give you a clue as to the broad theme. This one was originally broadcast on Saturday, 9th December, 1978, and, yes, it's yet another that is no longer in the archives because the Beeb only went and wiped the masters. The slapdash buffoons. There are a couple of excellent nonsense songs in this episode - one about what you could and couldn't buy with a million pounds, and another extolling the virtues of bananas - but some of the puns are absolutely outrageous. "Counterfeit?" "Yes, she had two." I really enjoyed the ones in the business news sketch, though, and I like how they always give the viewer ideas of games to try at home, in this case the coin-tossing competition. Tony Robinson's excellent as a spiv, Anita as the Girl on the Spot, Brian as a clumsy butler, and Julie doing extra singing duties. I can't help but marvel at the sheer nerve to rhyme "piano" with "banana", and "Hawaii" with "Long way away", but there you go. Oh, and see that phone toy at 15:39? I used to have one of those.
