Alan Turing famously claimed that we don’t need to decide whether a machine is actually thinking or conscious, we just need to know whether it acts like it is thinking. Can it simulate intelligence? Can it fool us into thinking that it is thinking, into believing that it has a mind? Is this enough, or are there deeper questions about the relationship between mind, body, consciousness and even an immaterial soul?
