EL PRIVILEGIO DE ODIAR: Los Casos Feinmann y Sola

This week, two men with open microphones for decades said, on national television, that they hated something or someone who couldn't defend themselves. Eduardo Feinmann said he detested Mexicans "with all his soul." Pedro Sola said he felt like poisoning dogs and shooting their owners. In this episode, I don't dwell on the scandal. I use these two cases to talk about what truly connects them: privilege, heterocispatriarchy, and class consciousness. I explain why a right-wing heterosexual man in Argentina and a right-wing gay man in Mexico end up operating in exactly the same way within the same system, drawing on the work of Raewyn Connell, Rita Segato, Pierre Bourdieu, and Georg Lukács. And I carefully share a personal anecdote about my own wedding in 2013 that helped me understand why social class and the era in which we are raised can weigh more heavily than our own identity when it comes to reproducing the harm we have suffered. This isn't an episode to cancel anyone. It's for all of us to ask ourselves from what perspective we're speaking when we speak.
