Kalau seseorang belum dewasa rohani, belum bisa makan firman yang keras yaitu kebenaran yang hanya dikenakan oleh orang-orang yang tidak menyisakan apapun bagi dirinya sendiri, rela kehilangan apapun demi Tuhan. Firman ini telah diungkapkan sekaligus dilakukan oleh Tuhan Yesus. Ketika Dia melepaskan kehormatan dan mengenakan penderitaan dosa demi keselamatan dunia. Kita pengikut Kristus, hendaknya seperti Yesus yang menjadi korban, dimana seluruh hak kita digunakan untuk kemuliaan Allah (Rom. 12:1). Seperti biji gandum yang jatuh ketanah dan mati supaya bisa bertumbuh dan menghasilkan buah.
