Tagalog Vs. MEXICAN - Can they Understand each other?

Tagalog Vs. Mexican - I've always wondered how much other Spanish-speakers can understand us given that we have thousands of Spanish loan words in Tagalog. I talked to my friend from Mexico who also lives here in the Philippines to get a better idea. I picked out a few common Tagalog words that also exist in Español and repeated it to him in the most neutral Filipino accent that I can muster so he can try to define the words. How similar is Tagalog from Mexican Spanish? How much can Mexicans understand from our everyday conversations? Please let me know what you think!
