Working with 'Pollen Identification Cards by W D J Kirk' in October - Part 1
This is the first in a series of monthly videos where I try to get a pollen sample from each of the plants on the W D J Kirk 'Pollen Identification Cards'. I start with October and examine; Himalayan Balsam, Ivy, Michaelmas Daisy, & Dandelion. I also feature Dahila too, as it continues to flower in my area. I examine each sample under the microscope; then, with any luck, establish what pollen loads my bees are collecting by monitoring a varroa board to collect any pollen loads they might have accidentally dropped. Thought this would be an interesting project for me over the Beekeeping year into 2021. If I can't find all the plants listed on each monthly card, I will try to include other plants visited by bees in my locality instead.
