Ready for the Road! Windshield Roll Cage Mount & Restored Tailgate – Bronco Restoration Part 5
My 1966 U13 Ford Bronco Roadster is finally ready to hit the road again! In this episode of the Bronco Restoration series, I installed a custom windshield-to-roll-cage mount so the truck can run without a hard top. I also attempted to build a DIY hard top pulley lift system… which went very wrong (seriously, do NOT try this at home). The big highlight is the tailgate — I completely sandblasted it, welded and smoothed it with bondo, repainted it, and added fresh FORD decals so it matches the Bronco’s style perfectly. Even though the paint is brand new, it blends seamlessly with the rest of the truck, making it look like it’s been there since day one. I also re-installed the original factory fiberglass U13 roadster door inserts — a rare and defining feature that makes this early Bronco so special. Seeing them back in place really completes the authentic roadster look.
