2 Overlooked Black & White Melodramas by Douglas Sirk Starring Barbara Stanwyck
Hello, Stany’s enthusiasts! In this video I am back at discussing the incomparable Barbara Stanwyck and two other overlooked gems of hers, to explore the melodramas she made with Douglas Sirk. I’ll be exploring two of their often-overlooked gems, All I Desire (1953) and There’s Always Tomorrow (1956). These black-and-white classics were part of my discovery this year when I added a Sirk box set to my collection, and I’m excited to share my thoughts with you. Initially dismissed as "soapy melodramas," both films have since undergone a critical reevaluation and are now celebrated for their emotional depth and Stanwyck's standout performances. Let’s talk classic melodrama and why these films deserve a second look! #DouglasSirk #BarbaraStanwyck #Melodrama #FilmHistory #HiddenGems #1950sCinema #oldhollywood 📚 Research sources and reading prompts: · Starring Miss Barbara Stanwyck by Ella Smith https://archive.org/details/starringm... · Barbara Stanwyck by Al DiOrio https://archive.org/details/barbarast... · Barbara Stanwyck by Andrew Klevan https://bookshop.org/a/96993/97818445... · The Cinema of Barbara Stanwyck: Twenty-Six Short Essays on a Working Star by Catherine Russell https://bookshop.org/a/96993/97802520... · A Life of Barbara Stanwyck: Steel-True 1907-1940 by Victoria Wilson https://bookshop.org/a/96993/97814391... · Becoming the Ex-Wife: The Unconventional Life and Forgotten Writings of Ursula Parrott by Marsha Gordon · Sirk on Sirk: Interviews with Jon Halliday · Photoplay, Modern Screen and Screenland magazines of the 1950s https://archive.org/ 🎬 Titles featured in the video and some links to watch: · All I Desire (1953) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0045492/ · There’s Always Tomorrow (1956) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049843/ If you want to stay in touch and further support the channel: 📜 My Substack - https://miriamsvintageclassics.substa... ☕️ Buy me a Ko-fi! - https://ko-fi.com/miriamsvintageclassics 🎬 My Letterboxd - https://letterboxd.com/MiriamClassics 🦋 My Bluesky - https://bsky.app/profile/miriamclassi... 🙅🏻 My Twitter/X - / miriamclassics 🎶Film Noir Background Music • Film Noir Background Music for Videos I No...
